Being 101 is your best chance

to expand the social and emotional skills that enrich your life. This multi-level experience offers quick fix information to resolve conflicts, a primer in basic emotional literacy, and advance course work for people who not only want to feel peaceful, but also want to offer peace to others.

Life is a multitude of relationships; Being 101 give you the skills and strategies for making yours true and strong. Some people grow old, but never grow up. Here are the lessons they missed.

Our Beginnings

When I started an intentionally-small school for atypical learners, I immediately realized we were going to need more than love and textbooks. We dedicated ourselves to developing and delivering the social lessons many of our students desperately needed to move forward in life. As our reputation for practical compassion grew in our community, children with more and more profound needs were entrusted to us. Each wave of new students brought fresh challenges that required us to find or invent new strategies.

Within a short while, profound things began to happen. Previously explosive children could be heard saying to themselves, “I can feel angry and choose to act well.” Students would ask if their feedback was welcomed instead of automatically criticizing one another. Wild, untamed hearts began to show patience and care for others. Our lessons were working.

During the 16 years I was director of my school, I continued to add to and refine this material, which now has levels for those who move beyond the "becoming peaceful" phase and journey into becoming peacemakers.
